Providing detailed analysis
Read our assessment of the active travel provision on the 474 home Broomfield Farm estate. Providing access to sustainable transport options from where people live is key to getting adoption of healthier ways of travelling, and in turn, relieving the carmaggedon that Whitby currently suffers from.
This development seemingly treats active travel as an afterthought. There are still some things that could be done to improve the estates effectiveness however.
Helping to design the future ...
We are providing proposals for walking and cycling infrastructure that will help to define the future of active travel in this district. We are also a stakeholder on the generation of LCWIP documents for Whitby area, and the North Yorkshire Moors National Park
Reporting Barriers to Access
We believe that all paths should be available to all wherever possible. This applies whether you are walking, scooting, in a wheelchair or mobility scooter, or cycling. Have you come across any barriers to access whilst trying to use paths in the Whitby and District area?
Please do report all that you find and we will try to do something about it.
Promoting Active Travel Groups ...
Maintaining what we have ...
We organise voluntary activities, such as litter picking or vegetation clearance, to help make our paths available to more people more of the time. Why not get involved?
Facilitating new infrastructure ...
With very low levels of cycle infrastructure, the potential for improvement is vast. Similarly many walking paths are in poor state of repair or simply not fully accessible to all. We will work towards obtaining funding to remedy these issues to provide the public with what they need to reap the health benefits.
