Path Description

The path starts at the back of the Back Marina Car Park, next to the level crossing. It follows the railway line along the southern side of the line. The path has no turn offs en route and so is easy to follow.

You actually have 2 options for where to start the path, at the back of Coates Marine, or at the front, but these 2 paths join a short distance later. The first thing you reach is Whitby “New” Bridge, or rather you pass under it, with the River Esk on the left.

The path follows the railway line around to the right, passing former railway signal box on the left. After a short distance you will see Larpool Viaduct looming into view. When you get closer there are a couple of viewing points to the left where you can see the river and viaduct.

After passing the viaduct, the path follows alongside the Esk for a short way, until you start to get a field on the left, part of a flood plain at Ruswarp. The path now straightens out and Ruswarp can be seen ahead. The path ends near the railway station in Ruswarp, on High Street.
