On 11th January 2024, Whitby and Esk Valley Active Travel was approved to be a registered charity by the Charity Commission. We have charity number 1206506.

The Whitby and District area is incredibly popular for tourism, with many great walks and amazing scenery, but sadly the facilities for cycling are very limited, and the district has many places that are very restrictive to the disabled also. Moreover the Whitby urban area cannot really be considered the most pedestrian friendly, with much room for improvement.

We have established this organisation for the following purposes.

Promote active travel, its health and wellbeing benefits, and the great opportunities offered in this area.

Facilitate the development of improved infrastructure for all forms of active travel. Whilst cycling is particularly problematic in terms of suitable facilities, we will also be attempting to address deficiencies for pedestrians and disabled.

We currently have 4 trustees (see our Organisation page), as well as several advisory members who have expressed an interest in assisting. If you would like to be involved in some way, be it encouraging more people to walk, wheel and cycle, or whether you’d like to help with the application for funding improvements, or anything else besides, please get in touch.

Our website will be added to over the coming months to add more information about how you can get active right now, as well as ideas we have for improving the available infrastructure.

Thank you for your time, and hope to see you out being active.
